Images from a short stay at Conception Abbey. A Benedictine monastery in Conception, Missouri. I read, took a nap, had good conversations and prayed the Office with the monks. 

My favorite thing about this place is the chapel during prayer times. There’s a big dome above the monks with beautiful icons painted all over it. Natural light pours in the room creating a really even diffused light. Nearly every surface in the chapel is reflective to sound. When the monks begin singing/chanting the prayers you are immediately hit with a wave of calming sound. The reverb of the place is so large that as one sings the overtones of the echo start to harmonize with the notes that you are currently singing.

These photos were shot on 35mm Lomography Color Negative 800 film, using a Voigtlander Bessa R3m and the Voigtlander 40mm Nokton lens. Processed at Express Photo and scanned at home with the Kodak Pakon f-135+.
